History

Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall was founded four decades ago with the intention of building what it has become - the premier independent firm in the National Capital Region.

In 1971, the firm’s four founders opened our office at Sparks and O’Connor with space and staff to support eight lawyers because we expected to grow. The firm had already grown to nine lawyers by 1976, when we moved to a larger office for the first time. We’ve continued to grow to ensure that our firm can offer the most comprehensive expertise, while maintaining our standard of diligence and our focus on our clients’ needs. Our success has come from building strong relationships with our clients, growing with them, and with the region. Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall is proud to be a part of the fabric of this city, involved in the community and local charities.

Over four decades, we’ve moved four times around downtown Ottawa, each time into a larger space than we needed, growing into it, and outgrowing it. By 2007, we moved to our present offices on Albert Street.

Today, our lawyers are supported by an experienced team of law clerks, legal assistants, computer technicians, a librarian and administrative and accounts personnel. As a client, you can meet the people who make the decisions that affect you. We can be more responsive than the multinational and national law firms while having the specialized resources for the most complex legal problems.
