Arbitration Goes Global – Financial Post

Barry Leon, Partner and Head of the International Arbitration Group at Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall LLP/s.r.l., believes that the opening of a North American office for the ICC (International Chamber of Commerce) International Court of Arbitration shows that the business is global, not just European.
 
There is an erroneous perception among all but the more sophisticated users of arbitration in Canada that the ICC is French and the LCIA (London Court of International Arbitration) is English, but the truth is that both organizations are global,” says Barry, who is also chair of ICC Canada and a member arbitrator at Arbitration Place. “The ICC also suffers because Canadians tend to default to the US-based AAA (American Arbitration Association), partly because there’s nothing like the AAA in Canada.
