Wendy Lamson

Partner & Patent Agent

With over 17 years of experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications, Wendy knows how to protect your invention. She understands clients’ needs because, for over thirteen years, she worked in corporate practice interacting with scientists on a daily basis. “Knowing when to keep things simple and when to delve into detail is key to successfully attaining patent rights, without breaking the budget”, Wendy says. A passion for learning new things helps too.

One of Wendy’s favourite jobs in the early stages of her career was working for a start-up biotech company in Vancouver. With a staff of only about 20, the company filed 13 patent applications in a single year. That start-up sold recently for 1.5 billion U.S. dollars to an international pharmaceutical company and a significant part of its valuation was based on its extensive patent portfolio. “In the end, it’s not about the money”, says Wendy, “it’s the satisfaction that comes with helping people achieve success”.

Wendy also appreciates the importance of keeping on top of the latest developments in patent laws. She has written various blogs on Canadian intellectual property case law developments. Wendy worked in research and development for a number of years before becoming a patent agent.
