Research Director

We are looking to add to the strength of our team by bringing in a Research Director with significant and broad experience in conducting legal research on a wide range of legal topics and areas of law. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with strong verbal and written communication skills.


Key Responsibities

  • Conduct in-depth legal research on a wide range of legal topics and areas of law
  • Collect and review legal documents and case law to provide analysis and summaries
  • Prepare legal briefs, reports, memoranda, and other documents as required
  • Organize and present research findings clearly and concisely
  • Collaborate effectively with litigation lawyers, staff, and articling students to support their legal research needs
  • Stay updated on changes in laws, regulations, and legal precedents that may impact ongoing cases or projects
  • Provide recommendations and sound legal advice based on research findings
  • Assist in drafting legal pleadings, motions, and other legal documents
  • Assist in preparing for trials, hearings, and other legal proceedings
  • Support other functions in the department as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (LLB) or Juris Doctor degree (JD) in law
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in legal research
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of court rules and procedures
  • Advanced technical skills in a variety of software including MS Office 365
  • Proficiency in using legal research tools and databases
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Professional presentation and strong ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality
  • Bilingualism is considered an asset
