Joël Turgeon

Joël Turgeon joined Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall LLP/s.r.l. in October 2024 as Partner and Head, Restructuring and Insolvency Group. He is called to the Bars of Quebec and Ontario and represents clients in both provinces. Prior to joining the Firm, Joël practiced restructuring and insolvency law in Montréal and Toronto, with other national and boutique firms.

Joël represents courts officers as well as debtor corporations, creditors, and other stakeholders in bankruptcy, restructuring, and receivership proceedings. Joël also regularly acts for purchasers of distressed assets and has extensive commercial litigation experience, including shareholder disputes.

Joël regularly appears before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, particularly on the Toronto Commercial List. He has also appeared before the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Quebec Court of Appeal, the Quebec Superior Court, and the Quebec Financial Markets Tribunal.

Recognized by his peers as a Best Lawyers, One to Watch in Insolvency and Financial Restructuring (National) for two years in a row, Joël serves as an executive member of several legal associations including the Canadian Bar Association and the Turnaround Management Association. He frequently writes articles, attends panels, and chairs programs in the insolvency and restructuring community.

Joël is fluently bilingual and practices law in both official languages. His background in Quebec civil law, coupled with his experience with Ontario common law, makes him a key resource of the Firm.
