Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall Gains Global Recognition for International Arbitration Group

April 4, 2011

OTTAWA – Only two years after being established, Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall’s International Arbitration Group has gained global recognition from Global Arbitration Review (GAR) and Chambers Global in their newly released 2011 editions. The GAR 100 ranks Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall among the top 100 international arbitration law firms in the world, and Chambers Global 2011 ranks two of the firm’s partners, Andrew McDougall and Barry Leon, among the leading arbitration lawyers in Canada.

Chambers Global says Andrew McDougall “is fast developing a notable presence in international arbitration and is seen as ‘among the next generation of Canadian arbitration stars.’ Sources appreciate his ‘clear and pragmatic advice’.” GAR reports that one client interviewed said: “What impressed me most was his preparation and attention to detail – his focused, credible and convincing arguments before the sole arbitrator made me feel confident about the outcome. He kept full concentration and caught his opponent… off guard on more than a few occasions.”

GAR describes Barry Leon as “one of Canada’s most high-profile arbitration practitioners” and Chambers Global says he “is considered an ‘accommodating, instructive and personable practitioner who provides clear advice and opinions’.

What sets Perley-Robertson apart is that they really assigned the top people to the case and gave it their full heart and attention.” (GAR 100, 2011)

“It is an honour to be recognized by clients and peers alike from around the world,” said Andrew McDougall. “What sets us apart is the high quality partner-level involvement we are able to provide at a sensible cost without the conflicts of interest that exist in larger firms.”

Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall established its International Arbitration Group in 2009 with the arrival of Group Head Andrew McDougall from top-ranked international arbitration firm White & Case in Paris. Barry Leon joined the Group the same year from leading Canadian law firm Torys in Toronto.
