Canada ratifying World Bank’s ICSID Convention is ‘Terrific’ According to Firm Partner

On November 1, 2013, Canada confirmed its ratification of the World Bank’s ICSID Convention by depositing its “Instrument of Ratification” with the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). Barry Leon, Partner and Head of the firm’s International Arbitration Group, tells the Financial Post this announcement is “terrific news for Canada and Canadian companies”.

For Canadian investors, this now means they will have access to an “impartial, less expensive and more effective dispute-resolution mechanism” to resolve investment disputes with host states.
