On December 1, 2013, Canada became a member of the Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes between States and Nationals of other States (ICSID). Partner and Head of the firm’s International Arbitration Group, Barry Leon, discusses with the Canadian Bar Association’s National Magazine the benefits of ICSID for Canada and for Canadian companies that invest abroad, and what both in-house and law firm lawyers need to know about using Canada’s investment protection treaties and using international commercial arbitration as important ways to reduce their client’s risks when investing or doing business internationally.
