April 16, 2018

OTTAWA, April 16, 2018 – Ottawa-based law firm, Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall LLP/s.r.l. is pleased to share uOttawa’s announcement, that for the 2018-2019 academic year, students at the University of Ottawa will be able to sign up for a course in Cannabis Law. Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall will have two lawyers teaching these courses, Joël M. Dubois and Megan D. Wallace.

The course will survey the many areas of the law impacted by this unprecedented change and will examine the regulatory framework of cannabis in Canada in respect of both medical and recreational use, and production.  In addition, the course will explore some of the potential legal implications of legalization, including with respect to employment/labour law, property law, immigration law and business law.

Partner, Joël  M. Dubois, who has been with the firm since 2005 says, “This course is the first of its kind for uOttawa and we are happy to be partnering  with the Faculty of Common Law in this new endeavor.  The legalization of cannabis later this year will have an impact in all areas of law and I look forward to exploring these issues with uOttawa students.”

The course will feature a variety of guest lecturers and instructors from Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall LLP/s.r.l. and in addition, a visit to Canopy Growth in Smith Falls will be scheduled.

‘’We are proud to be the first Canadian law school to offer courses in this cutting edge area of law and public policy,” declared uOttawa Dean of Law Adam Dodek.  “The legalization and regulation of cannabis will impact many areas of the law, and we are proud that our students will be able to study these issues in real time, as the regulation of cannabis unfolds.”
