In an effort to fast-track Canada’s post-COVID 19 economic recovery, on 14 April 2021, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship announced that an innovative pathway now exists to permanent resident status for over 90,000 essential workers and international graduates who are actively contributing to Canada’s economy.

To be eligible in the first category, workers must have at least 1 year of Canadian work experience in a health-care profession or another pre-approved essential occupation.

The second category is for international graduates, who must have completed an authorized Canadian post-secondary education program within the last four years, and not earlier than January 2017.
