Keith MacLaren Lawyer Hourly Rates: Mediation Rates – $500 CAD/hour (plus HST) for any additional time beyond the scheduled time.   Mediation Process:

  • Pre-Mediation Consultation (as needed): Understanding the issues, identifying parties, and agreeing on any procedural matters.
  • Session Preparation: Confidential review of submitted briefs and relevant documentation.
  • Mediation Session: In-person or virtual facilitation of structured negotiations for a potential resolution.
  • Resolution & Settlement: Assistance in memorializing agreements in enforceable terms.

  Arbitration Process:

  • To be conducted pursuant to the parties’ arbitration agreement.

  Delivery Format:

  • • In-Person: Available at Perlaw offices or other agreed venues.
    • Virtual: Via secure platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams).
    • Bilingual Support: Sessions available in English and French (as needed).

  Hourly Rates:

  Half-day Ottawa and Virtual Mediations: $1,600 flat-rate for up to a three-hour mediation, and up to two hours of preparation time, plus HST.

  Full-day Ottawa and Virtual Mediations: $3,000 flat rate for up to a six-hour mediation, and up to two hours preparation time, plus HST.

  Within Eastern Ontario and Outside of Ottawa: $3,600 for an up to six-hour mediation, and up to two hours of preparation time, plus HST.

  Hourly Rate Conditions:

  • Rates for mediations outside of Eastern Ontario will be agreed upon with the parties.
  • Disbursements (room rentals, travel, catering, etc.) to be billed separately.
  • Unless agreed otherwise, each party shall pay an equal portion of the total amount owing to the Mediator. If the parties are represented by counsel, the Mediator’s account will be submitted to each party’s counsel, who shall pay their client’s proportionate payment on their client’s behalf. After 30 days, interest will be charged at 2% per month (i.e., 24% APR) on overdue accounts.
  • The rate for mediations of three or more parties may vary depending on the nature of the dispute.
